Tens of thousands of state workers in Washington are the target of unusual public records requests  from an anti-union group asking for their birth dates.

The requests came from the Freedom Foundation, a conservative think tank based in Olympia that’s targeting public sector unions. On its web site, the group says it wants to “reverse the stranglehold public-sector unions have on our government.”

Washington state employees have not had a cost-of-living raise in six years. But that could change in the next budget cycle.

A tentative contract deal has been struck between the state and the union representing general government workers.

A new TV ad created by the Washington Federation of state Employees claims that violence has increased at Western State Hospital – because of budget cuts by the state.

The Seattle Times "Truthneedle" picked that ad apart and says it's misleading and "mostly false."
