The Seattle Seahawks saw a remarkable turnout for their first pre-season game – a contest that doesn’t count – with a sellout crowd and over fifty percent of all televisions in the market tuned in.

Art Thiel, KPLU sports commentator, said it's the storybook elements this team has that keeps fans from being able to turn away.

It’s no secret that many residents of Alaska are fans of the Seattle Seahawks. Some residents of Barrow got a surprise when Seahawks Kevin Pierre-Louis and defensive tackle Jimmy Staten showed up to thank fans for their support.

“A lot of us Seahawks fans knew the team was doing their tour throughout the state, but none of us expected them to come up here,” said Jeff Seifert, general manager of Barrow radio station KBRW.

Barrow is 1,976 miles north of Seattle.

Leading up to the Super Bowl on Sunday, there have been lots of rallies for the Seahawks. One of the most unusual took place in the Burke Museum, a natural history museum on the University of Washington campus.

For nearly 20 years, Edgar Martinez's double in the 1995 American League Division Series has been considered the greatest moment in Seattle sports history.

But then, last Sunday's NFC Championship happened. The Seahawks' comeback victory over the Green Bay Packers on Jan. 18 is sending Seattle to the Super Bowl for a second year in a row.

Does it trump Edgar?

Jim Borda of Federal Way and Creig Beckett of Seattle didn't know each other before this past weekend. But they both showed up at the same time outside Century Link Field — at 10 a.m. Sunday — to get in line for tickets to the NFC Championship game between the Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers.

Kam Chancellor's interception and 90-yard touchdown was the biggest play of Saturday's Seahawks playoff victory, judging from seismic equipment monitoring the shaking at CenturyLink Field.

The Seattle Seahawks addressed their need to add depth to the offensive line by drafting Missouri tackle Justin Britt with the final pick in the second round of the NFL draft.

The offensive line appeared to be a need for the Seahawks heading into the draft with starting right tackle Breno Giacomini and guard Paul McQuistan leaving in free agency.

The 12th Man showed up in full force for the Seattle Seahawks’ victory parade on Wednesday. Seattle police estimated some 700,000 people braved the cold to line the streets and cheer for the Super Bowl champions.

"I think it just gives us a sense of pride. It's given everyone something to rally around and be excited about. It's just brought joy to so many people here," said Lesli Burns, a fan.

These two are no fair-weathered fans.

Diehard Seahawks fans Greg Kockritz and Sean Cochran spent the night in a tent on Fourth Avenue, determined to stake out front-row seats for the teams’ victory parade on Wednesday.

Never mind the cold. These two arrived at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night, a two-person tent, a propane heater and an air mattress in tow.

“It don’t get no better than this,” said Kockritz. “Come on, this has been 39 years coming!”

Here's a window into why the Seattle Seahawks' defense so thoroughly dominated the Denver Broncos' offense during Sunday's Super Bowl, which Seattle won 43-8.

Yes, it certainly seems as if Seattle's players were just bigger and faster and played better.

The day after the Seahawks won the Super Bowl, the team store at CenturyLink Field was doing brisk business. Fans crowded into the space, buying everything from towels to shirt to hats sporting the Super Bowl XLVIII logo.

Arby Asatorrians, who'd already waited in line to buy a hat, was holding a souvenir football he planned to purchase.

“We were already downtown last night, celebrating after the game. I was wanting something to commemorate having a piece of the Super Bowl,” he said.

The Seattle Seahawks' mantra all season was to make each day a championship day.

They made Super Bowl Sunday the best day of all with one of the greatest performances in an NFL title game — sparked by a defense that ranks among the best ever.

How did the Seahawks end up in Super Bowl? Thank the team’s abysmal 2009 season, says KPLU sports commentator Art Thiel.

Art says that miserable season led the Seahawks to fire both their general manager Tim Ruskell and first-year coach Jim Mora. The team, which had a short list of candidates for general manager, made Pete Carroll an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Just What The Heck Is a Seahawk Anyway?

Jan 31, 2014

The first Seattle Seahawk to storm the field during home games isn’t the head coach or the quarterback — it isn’t even human. It’s Taima, a captive-bred Augur Hawk that has accompanied the team before every home game since 2007.

She is a beautiful representative of a species from the aridlands of East Africa, hardly a hawk of the sea.

So, what is a “Seahawk”?

They’re calling it the “Battle of the Batons” or the “Super Bow," complete with maestros in NFL hats.

In a video mashup, the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra and the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra faced off in a battle of iconic songs representing the two cities.

Marshawn Lynch, who faced NFL fines for not talking to reporters, appears to have made his peace with the media, says KPLU sports commentator Art Thiel.

The Seahawk took reporters’ questions for 15 minutes on Thursday morning, just a day after the Football Writers Association of America lodged a complaint with the NFL regarding access to Lynch.

“He appeared in front of the media with his aide de camp and horse whisperer, Michael Robinson,” said Art. “Michael has been a great asset and a great friend to Lynch, and the two of them together kind of entertained everyone.”

The rain didn’t dampen the spirit of Seahawks fans who turned out in force for a rally and flag signing at the Seattle Center on Wednesday.

After Mayor Ed Murray and former Seahawks players spoke from an open air stage, a 12th man flag that had flown on top of the Seattle Space Needle was taken down and put in a tent. Fans lined up to sign it.

It isn’t just the Seahawks and the Broncos who are facing off in the Super Bowl on Sunday. The big game ups the ante for the teams' superfans — those over-the-top, devoted individuals who are fixtures off the field.

So how do the two teams' super fans match up? We teamed up with Colorado Public Radio to get up close and personal with four of these off-the-charts characters.

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos will face the best defense they've met all season when they play Richard Sherman's Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl.

It will be a matchup between the NFL's No. 1 offense, led by Manning, against the NFL's No. 1 "D," led by Sherman, when the AFC's Broncos (15-3) take on the NFC's Seahawks (15-3) on Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Russell Wilson threw a 35-yard touchdown pass on fourth down and Seattle's top-ranked defense forced two late turnovers, lifting the Seahawks into their second Super Bowl with a 23-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers for the NFC championship Sunday.

Seattle will meet Denver for the NFL title in two weeks in the New Jersey Meadowlands. It's the first trip to the big game for the Seahawks (15-3) since they lost to Pittsburgh after the 2005 season.

The Seahawks will play the New Orleans Saints at the Clink this weekend, but it's clear both teams' fan fever runneth over the football field and deep in their hometowns.

So we wanted to know what off-field bragging rights each team might have. Who has it better at home? And whose mascot reigns supreme? We teamed up with WWNO Public Radio in New Orleans to consider the facts.

After Jan. 1, rioting will still be a crime in Washington, but it will get a new name. And Seahawks fans will have a new way to show their loyalty to the team.

The Seattle Seahawks will take on San Francisco in the season’s home opener Sunday night, and a fan group wants the crowd to get loud—loud enough to set a world record.

The crowd’s roar is powerful enough to disorient opponents and, famously, register on a nearby seismic monitor. So just imagine what it must sound like from smack in the middle of it.

“It’s really hard to describe the feeling,” said Joe Tafoya, the former Seahawks defensive end who’s helping organize the record attempt.

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill has been arrested after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and kept her in his home against her will.

According to a release from the Issaquah Police Department on Wednesday morning, Hill was arrested on investigation of unlawful imprisonment-domestic violence and third-degree assault-domestic violence.

Issaquah police said Hill would be booked into the King County Jail.

Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley will not be leaving for Philadelphia after all, and Oregon faces a future without Chip Kelly after all.

After dramatically opting to stay with the No. 2 Ducks a little more than a week ago, the enigmatic Kelly changed his mind and decided to take an NFL job as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kelly informed Oregon of his plans on Wednesday morning, shortly before the Eagles made it official.

They're all aboard the Gus Bus in Philly.

Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley arrived in Philadelphia on Tuesday for his second interview with the Eagles, suggesting the nearly three-week search to replace Andy Reid could be nearing an end.

The twitterverse exploded last night with different reactions to the controversial call on Monday Night Football. The final play of the game, the controversial touchdown by Golden Tate,  gave the Seahawks a 14-12 victory over the Packers.

Here is a mixed collection of tweets from people around the Seattle area regarding last night's win.

Football fans are furious. Bettors are out an estimated $150 million. Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin — the Republican who's famous for battling with organized labor — is on the side of the referees union. And the NFL is in something of a "prevent defense," saying that nothing can be done to change the outcome.
