PORT TOWNSEND, Wash. – A private submarine is diving this week near Port Townsend to examine the wreck of a steamer that sank in 1921 in Puget Sound.

The 90-year-old wreck of the SS Governor rests in 240 feet of water. A 15-foot submarine from OceanGate of Everett will be used to take photos to develop three-dimensional images of the hulk. A spokesperson said the company did complete the dive but that it would be several days before they would be able to complete processing the sonar, video and photos.
