A bear fleeing capture was killed this morning in Lynnwood

Police have killed a bear they were tracking overnight in a Lynnwood neighborhood, the Associated Press reports. KIRO-TV captured video of the bear fleeing and being killed. Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said the bear was dangerous because it was too close to homes and a nearby school.

Threats May Keep Everett High School Students Home

Parents of students at Everett's Cascade High School have permission to keep their kids home today. The school has been targeted by vandals, who used the memorial-day weekend to smash a concrete replica of the school's mascot and spray-paint violent warnings. 

One threat warned that five students would be shot today (Fri.)

Minnesota Snowshoer Missing in North Cascades

The Chelan County sheriff's office says the search is continuing Thursday for a 21-year-old man overdue on a snowshoe hike near Stevens Pass in Washington's North Cascades.

If you've just graduated from college are wondering where to go next, The Daily Beast says Seattle is a good choice. The news blog has issued its second annual list of 25 best cities for recent college graduates and Seattle is ranked at number 21. 

In the past decade the number of takeoffs and landings at Paine Field has dropped by nearly half.

The Snohomish County airport at Everett serves Boeing and aircraft maintenance businesses. But, most of the decline is among small private aircraft.

Loren and MaryAnn Anderson have announced their intent to leave Pacific Lutheran University in the spring of 2012, at the end of the academic year.

“The time is right for the university,” Loren Anderson, 65, said. “It’s a perfect time for new leadership as another era of progress and development is about to open for PLU.”

The process of burying the dead hasn't changed much over the centuries, but now their gravestones can provide a digital link to their life stories.

A Seattle-based company is creating burial markers that include a scannable, stamp-like image called a "quick read" — or QR code.

The reason Americans are have a long weekend, of course, is that Monday is Memorial Day. And that's much more than just the unofficial start of summer.

More than 200,000 people are expected to visit the Seattle Center over the Memorial Day Weekend for the 40th annual Folklife Festival.

About 1,000 music, dance and other events are scheduled over four days, starting Friday, at indoor and outdoor sites. The festival also includes food and craft booths.
