Towns across the Northwest have been struggling with what police say is a resurgence of gang activity. Gang tensions are running especially high this week in Wenatchee, Wash. The town’s small police force is racing to solve an arson-homicide that killed two children.

Wildfires

Central Oregon hits height of fire season

Summer got started late this year, but Central Oregon Fire officials say conditions are now ripe for wildfire.

Cool, wet weather in spring and early summer delayed the fire season. But there have been several weeks of warm temperatures and dry conditions. George Ponte is Central Oregon District Forester with the State Department of Forestry. He says so far, there haven't been any big fires in the region.

Condit Dam in southwest Washington coming down

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Work is under way to remove the Condit Dam in southwest Washington and restore salmon and steelhead habitat on the White Salmon River.

The 125-foot tall dam was built in 1913 about three miles from the Columbia River.

U.S. designates Idaho soldier's captor as terrorist

The Obama administration has officially designated the man linked with the capture of a Northwest soldier as a terrorist. Bowe Bergdahl of Hailey, Idaho, is the only U.S. soldier in Taliban captivity.

Amazon founder Bezos gives Seattle museum $10 million

A Seattle history museum says Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos has given the institution a $10 million gift.

It's the largest donation in the 59-year history of the Museum of History and Industry. The money will be used to establish a "Center for Innovation" at the new home of the museum, which is set to open in fall 2012.

'65 on 65' – Baby boomers reflect on aging

The first of the nation’s 75 million baby boomers are turning 65 this year. That’s a milestone that incites a lot of fear. But at least one woman thinks it doesn’t have to be that way. 

Kaycee Krysty, the former CEO and now "president emerita" of the Seattle wealth management firm, Laird Norton Tyee, believes baby boomers are redefining an age once known as the end of work and productivity. Voters green light Seattle's waterfront tunnel

The results are in for the primary election and the majority of Seattle voters have given the go-ahead to a tunnel that would replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct along the city's waterfront. Nearly 60% of the voters said yes – bringing over a decade of debate to a close.
