Update: Chihuly, city break ground for exhibition at Seattle Center

What was once a Fun Forest will soon be “ Chihuly Garden and Glass.”

Artist Dale Chihuly officially broke ground today on a 1.5 acre exhibition space in the Seattle Center. The gallery will include a garden, bookstore and café. It’s set to open in the spring of 2012. Just in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Seattle World’s Fair.

Arched entry to Mount Rainier National Park near completion

MOUNT RAINIER, Wash. — Crews are finishing work on an arched entry to Mount Rainier National Park on Highway 410 to replace an equestrian overpass that was built in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Ballard Locks closed for inspection today

The Ballard Locks in Seattle are closing from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday so divers can inspect structures that divert salmon to the fish ladder.

The Corps of Engineers says both the large locks and small locks will be closed, so boaters will have to wait to travel between Puget Sound and the Lake Washington Ship Canal.

6th grade hiker on track to finish 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail

Medford, Ore. – An 11-year-old girl from Salem, Ore., has walked the first 1,700 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. She’s hoping to make it to Canada in time to start sixth grade.
