Wash. man lights gas-soaked beehive, causes explosion

LYNDEN, Wash. — The Lynden, Wash., fire chief says a local man dumped gasoline on a beehive in a tree in retaliation for a bee sting, then ignited the hive, causing an explosion heard throughout his suburban neighborhood.

UI asks court opinion on release of Bustamante records

The University of Idaho is asking the state district court if the personal records of murder suspect Ernesto Bustmante, a former UI faculty member, can be released.

Bustamante was the suspect in the murder last week of UI graduate student Katy Benoit. His body was found in a local hotel room the day after the murder, and police believe he committed suicide.

Benoit memorial today in Boise; UI says safety is top priority

In the wake of the off- campus murder of one of its graduate students in Moscow last week, the University of Idaho is reaching out to the public to reassure family and friends that their loved ones are safe.

Update: Viaduct to close for 9 days to put up detour connections

It’s the beginning of the end for the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

Demolition work will shut down the double-decker highway for 9 days about two months from now, from October 21 – 31. According the state Department of Transportation, it’s the longest full closure of a Seattle area highway the city’s ever dealt with.

If you've got books overdue at the Seattle public library don't worry. No fines will be charged this week while all the public libraries in the city are closed due to budget cuts.

Seattle libraries will reopen after Labor Day on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

UI murder suspect and student killed had a sexual relationship

According to Moscow Police, University of Idaho graduate student Katy Benoit and the suspect in her murder, former UI assistant professor Ernesto Bustamante, began a sexual relationship during the fall 2010 semester.

The relationship ended in May of this year, and Benoit filed a sexual harassment complaint with the UI on June 12, alleging that threats of violence occurred on three separate occasions where Bustamante held a gun to her head. Bustamante denied the allegations.
