Gonzaga will play Louisville in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA women's college basketball tournament. Saturday's game in Spokane begins at 6 p.m.

The first college basketball player to score 2,000 career points and rack up 1,000 assists is a 5'8" Gonzaga guard who last night helped lead her team into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Women's championships. Courtney Vandersloot led the Bulldogs upset of UCLA in Spokane, 89-75.

Gonzaga's victory ensured their next tournament game would be in front of a hometown crowd in the NCAA's Spokane regional. They will face the winner of tonight's Xavier-Louisville contest on March 26th. 

Vandersloot scored 29 points against the Bruins, 21 of them in the second half, and tallied 17 assists. Teammate Kayla Standish scored 30, and Gonzaga won it's 20th consecutive game. 

Gonzaga continued its late season win streak, roaring through its first game in the NCAA men's basketball tournament with a solid win over St. John's last night, 86-71. The Zags dominated in rebounding, and just about every other category, against their favored Big East conference opponent, writes The Seattle Times' Bud Withers:

After a mid-season controversy and losing a shot at the Pac-10 title, the Washington Huskies appear poised to end the regular season on a high note. And they might just make it to the NCAA tournament.

Eastern Washington's Eagles staged a thrilling comeback against the University of Delaware to win the NCAA Division 1 football title, the first for the school. 

After trailing much of the game, Eastern rallied for a 20-19 victory in Frisco, Texas, before a crowd that included enthusiastic Delaware alum Joe Biden. The Vice President and Mrs. Biden. 

The Washington Huskies are working hard to prepare for their first bowl appearance in eight years.  They play Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl next Thursday, December 30th, in San Diego. 

Sports commentator Art Thiel shared with KPLU’s Kirsten Kendrick the many reasons why this game is such a big deal for Washington and not for Nebraska.
