Seattle Sounders win, but not by enough to advance in playoffs

They won the game but lost the chance to advance to the next round of the playoffs. That was the situation for the Seattle Sounders and their fans Wednesday night at CenturyLink Field.

The Sounders beat Real Salt Lake 2-0, but it wasn’t enough. Real Salt Lake advanced to the Western Conference final with a 3-2 aggregate victory in the two-game series, after winning the first match 3-0.

MLS Cup could be within Sounders' grasp this season

They've won the U.S. Open Cup for the third year in a row. They've moved on to the next round of a major international competition. And now, the Seattle Sounders have set their sights on winning their first-ever Major League Soccer Cup this year.

KPLU sports commentator Art Thiel says it would be the logical end to a spectacular season.

Preview: Sounders FC going for it all in playoffs

The Seattle Sounders begin playoff play on Saturday night against Real Salt Lake in Utah. The Sounders (18-7-9) earned the second-best record in Major League Soccer this season and are expected to go far in the playoffs.

In fact, the team is expecting to go all the way, after winning the U.S. Open Cup for the third year in a row.
