Final suspect in ecosabotage attack at UW pleads guilty

TACOMA, Wash. – The final suspect in a 2001 Earth Liberation Front arson attack in Seattle plead guilty Tuesday. Justin Solondz, 32, reached a plea deal with the government. A federal judge in Tacoma has approved a deal that could give Solondz a 7-year prison term.

Lawsuit announced in Snohomish County falling-ice fatality

EVERETT, Wash. — A Tacoma law firm called a news conference Tuesday to announce a lawsuit in the death of Grace Tam, a Marysville girl killed by falling ice in July 2010 at the Big Four Ice Caves east of Granite Falls.

Banning cell phone use may prevent collisions

That phone call can wait, especially if you are driving, said the National Transportation Board Tuesday. In Washington, using a hand-held phone while driving became a first offense in 2010.

The National Transportation Board asks each state to ban the use of electronic devices while driving, like cell phones or mp3 players. The board thinks reducing the use of hand-held devices will reduce the amount of collisions.

Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden is hosting a series of meetings in north Idaho to promote better understanding of the state’s laws regarding access to public records and open meetings.

Wasden says citizen participation in government is critical and that without it our system of government fails. However, he says that to participate fully citizens need access to their government.

Seattle wants gun ban reinstated by state high court

The city of Seattle is asking the Washington Supreme Court to determine whether municipalities can ban people from carrying guns in local parks and community centers where children gather.

Seattle instituted its ban in 2009. Several individuals with concealed weapons permits challenged the ban, and a King County Superior Court judge struck down the ban as preempted by state law governing firearms regulation.
