Banning cell phone use may prevent collisions

That phone call can wait, especially if you are driving, said the National Transportation Board Tuesday. In Washington, using a hand-held phone while driving became a first offense in 2010.

The National Transportation Board asks each state to ban the use of electronic devices while driving, like cell phones or mp3 players. The board thinks reducing the use of hand-held devices will reduce the amount of collisions.

Killer's psychological evaluation will remain confidential

The Marion County judge who'll decide if Gary Haugen is mentally competent to be executed, is keeping the inmate's psychological evaluation confidential.

Two-time convicted killer, Gary Haugen, wants to drop all appeals of his death penalty.

He fired his lawyers after they they had him undergo a psychological evaluation, then argued he was not competent to be put to death.

Judge Joseph Guimond had set an August date for Haugen’s execution.

Hundreds of new laws become effective in Washington state today - more than 300 in all.

The new laws cover everything from medical marijuana, human trafficking and DUIs to the counting of overseas ballots and foreclosure fairness.

Ruling goes against release of convicted juvenile killer

The state clemency board will recommend that Gov. Chris Gregoire not commute the sentence of a juvenile killer. Barry Massey was just 13 years old when he participated in a brutal murder. The board's 3-2 vote Thursday night reverses a previous clemency board recommendation that he should be let free.
