Over his decades in public life, former Gov. Albert Rosellini helped bring Washington into the modern era, burnishing his reputation as one of the state's most effective leaders.

But FBI officials who scrutinized Rosellini's activities in the 1960s saw something else. They questioned his political associations and probed a series of allegations that Rosellini was corrupt. The Seattle special agent in charge once wrote to FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover that Rosellini was "a thorough scoundrel."

Attorney General Rob McKenna is temporarily able to raise money again for his gubernatorial bid.

The Republican's campaign is asking people to donate money between Friday and midnight Sunday. The narrow window is between when the state Legislature adjourned and when lawmakers reconvene for a special session to deal with budget issues they failed to resolve the last time around.

Advisers to U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee say he will launch his campaign for Washington governor next week.

Inslee's political team said in a statement late Thursday that he would officially announce his candidacy on Monday morning in Seattle, followed by a second event south of Yakima. He will make additional campaign stops in Tacoma, Vancouver and Spokane on Tuesday.

Attorney General Rob McKenna is preparing to officially launch a campaign for governor.

A Republican familiar with the McKenna's plans said Tuesday that he will formally begin his 2012 campaign during an event Wednesday night. The person spoke on condition of anonymity so as not to pre-empt McKenna's announcement.
