Defunct Kingston ferry could improve reliability for King County’s passenger-only service

This ferry is costing the cash-strapped Port of Kingston thousands of dollars a month for insurance and maintenance costs. King County wants to take it over.

Their loss is our gain. That’s one way some folks are looking at the
failure of the Port of Kingston’s passenger-only ferry service.

The last sailing of the shuttle between downtown Seattle and Kingston was
September 28th.

Famed Washington ferry Kalakala reportedly sold for $1

TACOMA, Wash. — The owner of the historic Washington ferry Kalakala says on his website the vessel has been sold for $1 to an anonymous buyer who promises to restore the vessel to its art deco glory.

No other details about the plans were posted on the Kalakala Website.

Expect Seattle's own 'Carmageddon' during 9-day viaduct closure

It’ll be the longest full closure of a Seattle area highway the region’s ever dealt with. In less than two weeks, demolition begins on the south end of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. Several miles of State Route 99 will be closed for nine days starting Oct 21st. 

The state says all commuters will be affected – but none more than those near West Seattle.

Warning: Dogs will find fireworks on state ferries

The Washington State Patrol says dogs that sniff for explosives at state ferry terminals will find fireworks.

The patrol says ferry riders should store fireworks where they are accessible for troopers to examine. Any illegal fireworks will be confiscated, and the owners could be prosecuted.

Ferry riders face fare hikes under budget plans

Riders on the nation’s biggest ferry system, Washington State Ferries, should brace themselves for another round of fare increases. The only remaining question is how much. 

The state House and Senate have come out with competing spending blueprints for roads and ferries. One thing the budgets have in common is higher ferry fares. The  increase this fall ranges between 2.5% and 5% and another 2.5% coming next fall.
