Seattleite in Libya witnesses historic jubilation

It’s a “privilege” to be in Libya at the height of its transition from the now-dead leader Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi’s rule to that of the rebels, said Anna Knutzen, an emergency program manager for Mercy Corps in Tripoli, who grew up in Seattle.

“Martyrs' Square … was a sight to see. People were just piling in to celebrate the news, and it’s still going on. You might be able to hear it in the background,” Knutzen said in a phone interview Thursday afternoon.

Occupy Seattle, get free pizza; protests cost city $105,000 so far

Credit David Meinert

As the Occupy Wall Street Movement snowballs, small business owners, who employ just over half of all private sector employees in the nation, say they’re a part of the 99%, too.

It’s 5 o’clock in Seattle’s Westlake Park – the beating heart of the local Occupy Wall Street movement—and Jennifer Fox and some fellow teenage occupiers are smoking hand rolled cigarettes. They’re waiting for the free pizza.

Police arrested seven Occupy Seattle demonstrators who refuse to remove their tents Monday from the city's downtown Westlake Park.
