The 17th Annual KPLU Christmas Jam, our much-anticipated holiday concert, featured jazz vocalist Cheryl Jewell and her trio on December 5 live from the Lagerquist Hall in the Mary Baker Russell Music Center on the Pacific Lutheran University campus. 

Cheryl performed Christmas selections with the University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. David Deacon-Joyner.  

Watch a replay of the entire concert, or listen above.  The concert will also be rebroadcast at 2 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Nordstrom says profit and sales climbed in the most recent quarter, although earnings came in just below what analysts predicted.

Nordstrom says men’s shoes, men’s apparel and kids’ clothes did especially well. Morningstar analyst Paul Swinand says the company’s also doing well online. He says brick-and-mortar retailers like Nordstrom may have been late to the game but they’re reaping the benefits of e-commerce.

KPLU was pleased to welcome back our special guest from last year, award-winning Northwest jazz vocalist Gail Pettis to the 15th Annual Christmas Jam on December 8. Along with the PLU Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. David Deacon-Joyner, Pettis performed numerous holiday classics.

There’s a Mexican Christmas tradition called a “pastorela.” And it’s getting a new twist in Yakima.

A pastorela is a play about the shepherds’ search for the baby Jesus. This weekend members of the community will perform a pastorela that draws on the real-life experiences of Latinos in the Northwest.

This week we pit musical legends against upstarts and imitators, in a duel to the death. You be the judge and jury.

The 14th-Annual KPLU Christmas Jam, our much-anticipated annual free holiday concert and live broadcast, was held on the Pacific Lutheran University campus on December 9, 2010.

This year we featured acclaimed jazz vocalist Gail Pettis, as well as the PLU Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Robert Miller. They performed classic holiday favorites from "This Christmas" to "Baby It's Cold Outside," and closed the program with an audience sing-along of "White Christmas."
