KPLU NAMES DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC MEDIA
(Seattle/Tacoma, WA) - Jennifer Strachan has been named Assistant General Manager/Director of Public Media for Pacific Public Media (see boilerplate below).
In the newly-created position of Director of Public Media, Strachan's responsibilities include providing leadership on the identification and use of current and emerging technologies outside of radio, expanding KPLU's online news distribution capacity, and cultivating online communities around the services and mission of KPLU in a local, national, and international context - taking Pacific Public Media into the future. Strachan will start work on September 4, 2008.
Strachan has 16 years of experience in television and multimedia production and management, with the last five in public broadcasting. Most recently, she served as the Director of Programming and Production at KBTC Public Television in Tacoma, WA where she was instrumental in developing its new media initiatives and enhanced multimedia content for the web. She served as Executive Producer for KBTC's local documentary series, Full Focus, which garnered multiple Emmy awards within its first year in production.
Prior to her work in public broadcasting, Strachan worked in both corporate and community production. While serving as Chief of Television for Creighton University, she was selected for an intensive three-month fellowship designed to encourage innovative media strategies. This extensive training involved creative development of web design, streaming media and multimedia production. During this time she also served as a freelance producer for NBC's Today Show, ABC News, and Home and Garden TV. Early in her career, Jennifer worked in local news as a producer and editor for KUSA-TV in Denver where she was a key participant in the development and expansion of their morning news, which is one of the highest-rated morning news programs in the country.
"We're looking forward to Jennifer joining the team at Pacific Public Media and helping us continue our transition to an international public media producer," said KPLU General Manager Paul Stankavich. "As our senior manager for the development of new media, Jennifer will help us advance our web presence and lead initiatives to utilize new and developing media platforms."
Strachan has a B.A. in Technical Journalism from Colorado State University and has studied media and communications at the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh Scotland. She has also served as an advanced media instructor during her career.
Strachan is married with two children and lives in Gig Harbor Washington.
