STEVE MARIS IS KPLU’S NEW UNDERWRITING SALES MANAGER

(Seattle-Tacoma, WA) KPLU and Public Radio Partners are pleased to announce the hiring of Steve Maris as Underwriting Sales Manager. He replaces Beverly James, who joined KPLU’s underwriting department in 2003 and was promoted to Sales Manager in 2006. Ms. James is retiring from KPLU to go sailing with her husband. Maris has already begun work at the station’s Seattle offices and studios.

For the past 19 years, Maris was responsible for overseeing various aspects of membership development and visitor services for Seattle’s Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB). He was able to drive membership and advertising revenue growth even during periods of reduced membership staffing and down business cycles. Maris was also instrumental in creating new advertising and sponsorship programs for SCVB that enabled member companies to better reach and attract visitors to the Seattle area. In addition, he was project manager for two new visitor centers which now serve thousands of Seattle visitors each month.

Prior to the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Maris served first as an account executive and later as Vice President of Marketing and Sales for the Puget Sound Business Journal, from 1983 to 1990. While there, he created and managed a special publication division which added significantly to the Business Journal's growth and profitability.

Maris has an MBA from the University of Washington and is actively involved in the Seattle community. “As a long-time KPLU listener and member, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the success of public radio in Western Washington,” he said.
