Western to offer summer classes in Seattle

Western Washington University is offering summer session classes for the first time in King County starting this June. The classes will be held at North Seattle Community College.

Paul Cocke, Director of university communications, says the goal is to help students graduate in a timely manner.

“Since Western attracts 40 percent of its freshmen and transfer students from King County, Summer in Seattle helps them get a head-start for their studies at Western. For current Western students, many of who return home to Seattle during the summer, the opportunity to take classes during the summer helps them complete degree requirements faster and it’s part of our goals to help our students graduate within four years.”

Cocke says a range of classes will be provided including core business classes. One of the classes will be part of the Ralph Munro Seminar, named in honor of Ralph Munro, a Western alumnus and trustee and Washington’s secretary of state from 1980 to 2000. That class will focus on how local, state and national politics work. Speakers will include elected officials, public-policy experts and political scientists.

All classes are also open the public and formal admission to Western is not required. Tuition is the same as classes at Western’s main campus in Bellingham.
