Longshore workers from protest show up for arrests

KELSO, Wash. — About 200 Longshore workers stopped by a courthouse in Washington state to turn themselves in but left a short time later after no arrests were made.

The workers stood quietly in two long lines in front of the Cowlitz County courthouse on Friday. They were involved in an aggressive protest about a week ago at a grain terminal in Longview.

Their union says they showed up because authorities had not responded to requests to peacefully coordinate with those charged with crimes related to the protest. No law enforcement officers approached the group Friday.

A judge on Thursday found the union in contempt over a raid in which police say property was damaged and guards overwhelmed.
