“Jazz DJ by day, courageous crime fighter by night. From the makers of Toxic Black Sludge and the hometown folks at Foaming Meadows Arrested Housing Development – it’s time once more for another astonishing adventure from the rasping files of …Jimmy Jazzoid, DJ Detective…”
On Tuesday, October 30, KPLU presented Jimmy Jazzoid and the Squid-Lord from Space, morning jazz host Dick Stein's follow-up to last year’s Jimmy Jazzoid adventure. The show was performed before a studio audience at Seattle’s Museum of History & Industry and broadcast as it happened.
The show stars Dick Stein as Jimmy Jazzoid, DJ Detective and Seattle Times restaurant critic and KPLU food commentator, Nancy Leson as glamorous gal about town Nancy Gleason. Other KPLU personalities featured in the show include Robin Lloyd, Nick Morrison, Gary Davis, Liam Moriarty, and Katherine Banwell. Michael Stein joins the cast as the announcer. Jazz vocalist Greta Matassa and her band return, as does the harmony group “The Fabulous Fenderskirts. On-stage Theremin player Tim Hart adds the perfect cheesy 1950's sci-fi sound to the production.
A flying saucer lands in Safeco Field. Its pilot, a silver lamé-clad space-squid in Lucite platforms (Seattle radio personality and KPLU commentator John Maynard), emerges and issues demands. Can Jimmy and Nancy save the day?
