(Seattle-Tacoma, WA) 88.5 KPLU fulfills a holiday tradition by
presenting a number of Christmas and New Year's Eve specials. The
on-air festivities include the perennial favorites, "A Car Talk
Christmas Carol" and "Christmas Memories with Marian McPartland," and
KPLU's own "A Bluesy Christmas Eve" and "Blue Year's Eve."
KPLU's holiday specials will air as follows:
Sunday, December 24
1 to 2 p.m. - Jazz Northwest holiday special with Jim Wilke features
Duke Ellington's Sacred Music performed by the Seattle Repertory Jazz
Orchestra.
2 to 3 p.m. - Christmas Memories with Marian McPartland. Marian
McPartland celebrates the holidays with her favorite Christmas music
and memories. She performs traditional Christmas songs as well as
modern works that celebrate the season.
6 p.m. to 12 midnight - "A Bluesy Christmas Eve." Nick Morrrison spins bluesy Christmas selections for a soulful good time!

Monday, December 25
Kevin Kniestedt is going to play Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite in
its entirety beginning at midnight Christmas morning on the
"Grooveyard."
9 to 10 a.m. - Jonathan Winters' A Christmas Carol. A KPLU
tradition. Comedian Jonathan Winters presents a distinctive reading of
Dickens' holiday classic. Winters voices all of the characters.
10 to 11 a.m. - Jazz Piano Christmas XVII. Recorded live at the Kennedy
Center with pianists Allen Toussaint, Cedar Walton, and Eric Reed, plus
Northwest performers Jovino Santos Neto and Nancy King.
11 a.m. to 12 noon - Jazz Piano Christmas XV. Recorded live at the
Kennedy Center and featuring pianists Kenny Barron and Lynne Arriale,
and vocalist Andy Bey.
12:04 to 1 p.m. - KPLU Christmas Jam (re-broadcast). Featuring jazz
vocalist Greta Matassa, vibraphonist Susan Pascal and PLU's Jazz
Ensemble.
1 to 2 p.m. - MOHAI Radio Theatre: Miracle on 34th Street
(re-broadcast). KPLU's live radio holiday presentation starring Dick
Stein.
2 to 2:30 p.m. - A Car Talk Christmas Carol Redux. Starring Tom and Ray
Magliozzi as the Scroogiozzi Brothers and a stellar cast of
personalities from National Public Radio including Robert Siegel as Bob
Cratchit, Scott Simon as The Spirit of Public Radio Present, and Ira
Glass as Tiny Ira.
Sunday, December 31
6 p.m. to 12 midnight - "Blue Year's Eve." John Kessler features some
of the year's best blues recording and sets the perfect party tone for
New Year's Eve celebrations all over the Puget Sound area.
