Greta Matassa is a Pacific Northwest favorite. She's been voted "Best
Jazz Vocalist" in the Northwest four times by the readers of Earshot,
Seattle's jazz magazine. Jim Wilke, host of KPLU's Jazz Northwest and
the syndicated Jazz After Hours on Public Radio International, says,
"She has a fearlessness in approaching material that makes her like an
instrumentalist in a jam session." Seattle Times critic Misha Berson
describes Matassa as a vocal chameleon who "can sound husky or crisp,
ebullient or wailing, girlish or jaded." Matassa's most recent release
is Favorites From a Long Walk (2005) on Origin Records.
Susan Pascal's music strikes a fine balance between spontaneity and
imaginative arrangements, originals and great jazz, and American
Songbook standards. She's performed on Connie Evingson's CD, Gypsy In
My Soul, and on releases by Greta Matassa, The Jazz Police, Neil
Andersson, and Orville Johnson. Susan's vibe work can also be heard on
several motion picture soundtracks.
The University Jazz Ensemble is a jazz big band, performing regularly
on the PLU campus, at jazz venues in the Puget Sound area, regional
high schools, and national jazz festivals.
Musical selections featured in this year's KPLU Christmas Jam concert
include "Winter Wonderland," "It's Christmas," "The Bell That Couldn't
Jingle," "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year," and a Glenn Miller
Yuletide medley.
Doors open at 11 a.m. Early arrival is strongly suggested due to
festival seating. More information, including artist bios, directions
