KPLU NEWS WINS FOUR AWARDS
(Seattle-Tacoma, WA)  Four awards were bestowed upon KPLU in the 2007 Western Washington Society of Professional Journalists’ Excellence in Journalism Competition.  Keith Seinfeld of KPLU took first place in the General News category for his story, “Mental Illness Safety Net is Torn.”

The additional three KPLU winners were honored with second and third places.  For the Learning Curve feature, “Older Students on Campus,” Gary Davis won second place in the Feature Reporting category; Liam Moriarity also won second place for his Learning Curve series, “The French Connection” in the News Series category.  Fill-in host and commentator Nick Morrison took third place for his commentary, “Home Grown Tomatoes.”

“KPLU has a very talented staff of reporters and story tellers,” says KPLU Programming Director Joey Cohn.  “They work hard every day to share information that they feel our listeners will find interesting and beneficial. I’m pleased that they were recognized for the good work that they do.”

The 2007 awards banquet was held June 2, 2007 at the Meydenbauer Center in
Bellevue.  The event was hosted by Kirsten Kendrick, host of KPLU’s Morning Edition, and Ross Reynolds, host of “The Conversation” on KUOW.

KPLU’s newscasts in Morning Edition and All Things Considered won first place in SPJ’s 2006 competition, which also recognized KPLU reporters Kirsten Kendrick, Jennifer Wing, Keith Seinfeld, Paula Wissel, Bellamy Pailthorp and Austin Jenkins with multiple awards.
